This program is created for family law practitioners to help them identify and cope with tax issues encountered in family law practice.

Moving from basic to more advanced topics, this program is designed for attorneys with differing levels of knowledge of taxation.

It begins with overviews of income taxation of individuals and closely-held businesses, offering a refresher for attorneys who already are familiar with the basics and a primer for those who are not.

The program then moves to advanced issues within specified topics including:

  • Detailed examination of various tax issues, problems and strategies in alimony settlements
  • Internal Revenue Code Section 1041 and its impact on court-ordered property division
  • Brief overview of gift tax
  • Detailed examination of various tax issues, problems and strategies in equitable distribution settlements
  • Important tax issues in business valuations
  • Multiple tax issues involving business entities in equitable distribution settlements, including sales of businesses or interests in businesses, sales of business assets and distributions of business assets
