It focuses on the modern construction and definition of “parent” including advances in science related to assisted reproductive technology as a means of having children.
Finally, it discusses deficiencies in current North Carolina statutes, and the 2017 Uniform Parentage Act (UPA) as an example of an updated and comprehensive legislative package that is appropriate to address the status and needs of today’s parents and children.
