Navigating Housing and Public Benefits

Selected from 22nd Annual Elder & Special Needs Law Symposium, February 22-23, 2018

Click on the "In Depth" tab for tuition and speaker information.

Help clients with special needs or disabilities navigate the benefits available to them by learning more about public benefits programs, personal care services, and the unique housing issues these clients face.

This session first reviews the myriad of housing options available to children with disabilities and then examines some creative partnerships among parents, trustees & non-profits (or low-profit entities) that seek to expand opportunities for independent living and to help fill in the gaps in housing for persons, particularly children on the autism spectrum and others who may be capable of independent living with supports.

It also discusses some of the risks faced by housing and independent living partnerships and where these parents, non-profits and trustees may risk liability.
